   ABOUT ME

PICTURE.jpg

I was born on an Air Force base in Massachusetts, but my earliest memories are those of watching 4th of July fireworks from a boat anchored off Fire Island in the Great South Bay on the South shore of Long Island New York.  I associate my love of the sea to those days and that little boat, fishing, crabbing and swimming in the waters of Long Island. My family was based around New York City and Long Island. My Father purchased a Chevrolet Dealership in Southern Maine and that is where I grew up. I lived Just a few miles from coastal Kennebunkport and my affection for the sea continued to grow. I graduated from Bryant College in Smithfield RI with a degree in Computer Science but quickly determined that in 1984 computer related work entailed sitting in a windowless, climate-controlled room inputting data to a machine that would control my ever-waking moment. I began to look for something different and I stumbled upon a job in the construction industry as a project cost accountant, managing project budgets and expenses. Being on the jobsite, watching buildings grow, I found the job to be very enjoyable.  Meanwhile I had learned to SCUBA Dive in college and was fortunate to connect with a local dive club. The Old Colony Amphibians were a group of hard charging SCUBA enthusiasts who made it their mission to go SCUBA diving every chance they could. In the waters surrounding Rhode Island and Massachusetts whether it be Summer or Winter away we went.  I have dived Newport Harbor in the dead of Winter more times than I care to remember.  I have also dived all the Submarines of which there are 4, one a German U-Boat, in the waters of Block Island and Narragansett Bay.  One cold January day my wife, a travel agent at the time, booked us a week on board a small Live-aboard dive boat travelling from Miami to Bimini Bahamas.  After a week in the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas my life was changed, we immediately moved to Miami.  10 days after we got off the dive boat I was waiting on the dock as the Live-aboard arrived from their most recent trip.  The captain asked, “what are you doing here?”  I answered, “I want to do what you do”, as I learned from personal experience, Live-aboard guests say that every week but only 1 or 2 ever do it. I was one of those who did.  My wife told me to follow my dream and before we knew it, we were SCUBA instructors with 500-ton USCG Captains licenses viewing the underwater wonders of the world. The transition to Yachts was a logical progression.   Most recently I spent nearly five as the captain of a 105-foot custom build motor yacht, which was once a high-performance yacht but after alterations had become a challenge to handle with a deep draft and no bow thruster. I got a great deal of boat handling practice.  In addition, I maintained the same crew members for all my time as Captain, and I finished each year under budget.  My Mother died quite unexpectedly in 2016, all my grandparents lived to be 97-108 years, and I decided to spend time with my father and enjoy life as her passing reminded me life is short, sadly that concept was reinforced by the passing of my Father in January of 2025, faced with “What do I do now” I realized how much I enjoy my job and would like to get back to my career as a mariner.  I was contacted by Three of the leading Liveaboard SCUBA diving fleets in the world (after a friend in the industry spread my name around the largest SCUBA diving convention on earth) and I worked relief for the Aggressor Fleet and AQUA CAT and AQUA CAT asked me to stay on permanently. I felt it would be fun and an opportunity to hone my charter skills.  I intend to return to the sea and travel more widely.   I am refreshed and excited to get back to work in the marine industry. It is my objective to safely and efficiently manage an active vessel, maximizing the experience for the owners and their guests while remaining safety and cost conscious as well as fiscally responsible.
